Editorial Policy
Travel rules, prices and fees change often. This page explains how we source facts, how we show how fresh a page is, how AI assistance fits in, and what we do when something is wrong.
Sourcing rules
- Official first. Entry rules, visas, taxes and fees are checked against government, border-authority or tourism-board pages where one exists.
- Reputable second. Where no official page is reachable, we use established news or industry outlets and say so in the source note.
- Linked, not implied. Figures that change (fees, rates, dates) carry a link to where they came from.
- Omit what we cannot verify. If we cannot confirm a figure against a source, we leave it out rather than guess.
- Factual in sections, voice in intros. Brand voice belongs in introductions; practical sections stay neutral and include honest negatives.
“Last verified” dates
Every guide records a lastVerified date and, where relevant, an updatedDate in its frontmatter. The first is the day the practical facts were last checked against sources; the second is the day the content was last changed. Explainer pages such as ourEU EES and ETIAS explainer and2026 tourist taxes table show a visible “Last verified” line.
If a page looks out of date, treat the date as a warning and check the official source before you book. A stale page should be re-verified or marked as stale.
How AI assistance is used
RouteAtlas is built and maintained with AI-assisted tooling for research, drafting and templating. Our written strategy sets the principle that AI may fill structured fields while humans verify them, and that content should be factual rather than promotional.
AI-assisted content can contain mistakes. We do not claim that every sentence has been independently fact-checked by a human; we link sources so that you can check key facts yourself, especially anything involving entry rules, health or money.
Independence and advertising
The site carries no advertising, no popups and no sponsored placements, and we do not include affiliate links in guides. Recommendations are not for sale. If that ever changes, we will say so on this page and label affected content clearly.
Corrections
When we find an error, or a rule changes, we update the page, refresh its dates, and fix the same fact anywhere else it appears. Because much of our data is stored centrally and rendered across pages, one fix usually updates every guide that uses it.
A public corrections email address is not published on the site yet, so we have not listed one here.
Not official advice
Our guides are general information, not legal, medical or immigration advice. Always confirm requirements with the official authority for your passport and dates.
